I thought I might start my character origin posts by talking about the creation and backstory of some of the characters in the books. I decided to begin with a character who has appeared in both the Phoenix and Crossbow books, Mr Giles Hall.
Our Vanguard Research Console is now working in beta, and we plan to start uploading lots of resources, including character, weapon, item, and location files, and hopefully answering any questions from the books 🙂

History:
In his 20s and 30s, he worked with the Srehtafs and Vanguard, and was also a freelance bounty hunter with Jan Cloud and Captain Marek.
He eventually became something of a silent guardian to Lani Cloud, Jan’s daughter.
Inspiration:
Like many of my adult characters, he is inspired by characters from the books, films, and TV series I grew up with. I like to think of him as a mix of Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a younger version of myself, and Duncan Idaho from the Dune series.
Likes:
Good whisky
Facts Not In The Books:
A master swordsman who won Battle of the Nations, the World Championship and the most famous HMB event. It features huge group fights, or buhurts, such as 5vs5, 12vs12, and 21vs21.
