Lani had expected her school trip to be boring. In fact, she'd have happily sat through another three hours of lectures if she'd known what was coming. One mysterious old book later, she's stranded in the past, surrounded by legends that really ought to have stayed legends, and wondering how on earth she's going to get home.

Unfortunately, getting home is the least of her problems. There's a young prince caught up in a dangerous struggle, a sword that seems to have a mind of its own, and a particularly troublesome Slavic god who knows far more than he's willing to share. As Lani begins to discover just how important the book she's carrying really is, she finds herself drawn into an ancient game between gods, where the past is changing and the consequences could reach far beyond her own time.

With new friends beside her, enemies she'd rather avoid and more questions than anyone seems willing to answer, Lani must find the courage to face a world she doesn't understand. She's certainly no hero, and she has absolutely no intention of becoming one, but the people she's met are worth fighting for, even if it means getting herself into considerably more trouble.

After all, she was only supposed to be on a school trip.
